Our day surgery procedures include:
- general surgery
- ear, nose and throat surgery
- plastics and reconstructive surgery.
Our pre-admission service is dedicated to ensuring patients are ready for their admission to hospital.
Our specialised nursing staff work closely with surgeons and endoscopists to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
This service caters for patients who require additional assessment, whether they are having a simple procedure or have a complex case. Anaesthetists and staff members from the unit take part in a consultation prior to surgery to talk about the specific needs of the procedure.
On admission day
When you arrive at hospital, please register at reception located at Entrance 1. You will then be directed to go to the Day Surgery Unit on the Ground Floor.
Please bring your consent forms and X-rays and wear something comfortable to hospital.
At the Day Surgery Unit you will be asked to change into a gown. The admission nurse will admit you, review your medical history, record your vital signs, answer any questions you may have and prepare you for your surgery or procedure.
You will then be asked to wait in the lounge until you are required in theatre. Your admission time has been scheduled to minimise your waiting time, however it is possible you may have to wait 2-3 hours for your surgery, depending on the procedures scheduled before you. Please bring some reading or something to do while you wait.
When you are escorted to the theatre complex, your belongings will be stored securely. We advise you to leave any valuables at home.
After your surgery or procedure you will return to the Day Surgery Unit. If you come with a support person, they will not be permitted past the initial waiting area unless your health status requires you to have a support person with you. The nursing staff will call your support person once you are ready to return home.
